What we make

What we make at Stewart Granite Works

Three things done by hand, in granite, for West Virginia families.

Custom Memorial Engraving

Lettering, portraits, artwork, borders, and finishing, cut into granite by hands that have done this work a long time. Every inscription gets read aloud twice before the cut.

Headstone Design

Every design starts with a conversation about the person, not with a catalog page. Bring us the name, the story, the photo, the faith — we draw from there.

Memorial Fabrication

From raw granite through cemetery-ready finishing: cutting, shaping, engraving, polishing. The headstone leaves our shop complete, ready to install.

Common questions

Questions families ask first.

What is the difference between memorial engraving, design, and fabrication?

Engraving is the cut itself. Design is the drawing that guides the cut. Fabrication is the whole memorial, from raw granite to cemetery-ready finished stone. Most families want all three from one shop, and that is our specialty.

Can you just add an engraving to a headstone I already have?

Sometimes. It depends on the stone, the cemetery rules, and what you want added. Bring us a photo and the cemetery name and we will tell you plainly whether it can be done.

Do you make flush markers and upright monuments both?

Yes. Both are common in WV cemeteries. We will tell you which type your cemetery accepts.

How do you handle custom artwork?

Portraits go on polished black granite by laser etching. Traditional artwork gets drawn and sand-blasted into the face. Anything a family can sketch or describe, we can usually put into stone.

Do you do double (companion) headstones?

Yes. A double headstone can be designed with one side inscribed and the other left blank for the future, or fully engraved if both names and dates are known.
